Robert Lewis was born in Selma, Alabama while his father was working on a catfish farm.  He spent most of his childhood in Hattiesburg, Mississippi with his three siblings fishing, hunting, and generally spending most of his time outdoors. 

He has been published several times by the New York Times as a freelancer. His photographic work focuses on nature and the natural world. He has a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in photography and art at Mississippi State University and is a freelance commercial photographer.
